Learning Designed for Tomorrow

The Menasha Joint School District broke ground in spring 2024 on a new Maplewood Middle/Intermediate School, replacing the old, overcrowded facility with a new state-of-the-art building on the same site. Opened in fall 2025, it was designed to operate as two separate schools: an intermediate school for grades 5-6, and a middle school for grades 7-8.  The new school was designed to create flexible, modern learning environments, featuring geothermal heating, solar panels, an abundance of natural lighting, and sound-optimized classrooms. It features a “neighborhood” design, grouping classrooms around shared, collaborative spaces.

This project featured extensive environmentally friendly features like geothermal heating and solar panels.  At times, the project really felt like it was centered around those environmental objectives, making the daily, weekly and monthly coordination a challenge – as to not interfere with any of those outside factors.  ALC needed to work alongside all of the other trades to coordinate and help all of the aspects of the project come together.
